I sometimes think that the (divine, as it were) purpose of evil is to provide a kind of vaccination leading to immunity.

Evil and monsters, after all, is a minority, in the grand scheme of things. Given that 'normal' (for want of a better word) people are innately good, they are simply not used to living with evil. In their prehistoric little groups of 150 people or so, a truly evil individual would only have come around once every few generations or so, and been promptly ostracised. Of course they'd have stories about it (which would eventually become fairytales), but when it's 'just a story' it's not often enough.

And so, in order for humanity to evolve and grow and become stronger, 'evil' comes along, creating an instinctive, natural opposite reaction, a disgust and a rejection. This reaction can then be reinforced and after enough time, if that which does not kill us makes us stronger, we have an immunity and a wisdom we can take with us for the rest of our series of existences. It filters back to the original stone (or centre point, source of all) too, of course.

I think it may be the case, however, that on this particular planet, the 'vaccination' was a little too strong. Hence the dystopia. Humanity has witnessed true evil for many thousands of years, yet failed to completely ostracise it. It's had many chances, though. As such, evil has flourished and become more adept at surviving.

Something has to happen to stop it getting worse. The longer it goes on, the more drastic that something may well have to be.

My two pence!

I would just be careful who you call "God's Monsters." As I understand it, many who think they are without sin will not be hanging with him.
