I sometimes think that the (divine, as it were) purpose of evil is to provide a kind of vaccination leading to immunity.

Evil and monsters, after all, is a minority, in the grand scheme of things. Given that 'normal' (for want of a better word) people are innately good, they are simply not used to living with evil. In their prehistoric little groups of 150 people or so, a truly evil individual would only have come around once every few generations or so, and been promptly ostracised. Of course they'd have stories about it (which would eventually become fairytales), but when it's 'just a story' it's not often enough.

And so, in order for humanity to evolve and grow and become stronger, 'evil' comes along, creating an instinctive, natural opposite reaction, a disgust and a rejection. This reaction can then be reinforced and after enough time, if that which does not kill us makes us stronger, we have an immunity and a wisdom we can take with us for the rest of our series of existences. It filters back to the original stone (or centre point, source of all) too, of course.

I think it may be the case, however, that on this particular planet, the 'vaccination' was a little too strong. Hence the dystopia. Humanity has witnessed true evil for many thousands of years, yet failed to completely ostracise it. It's had many chances, though. As such, evil has flourished and become more adept at surviving.

Something has to happen to stop it getting worse. The longer it goes on, the more drastic that something may well have to be.

My two pence!

I would just be careful who you call "God's Monsters." As I understand it, many who think they are without sin will not be hanging with him.

That’s the point to the introduction, which explores the uncomfortable reality that we are not separate from one another as much as we’d like to think.

Right. But That goes both ways. And this does not read like that. People have the individual rights to live as they choose. But they do not have rights to force crazy views on whole populations. Or spend money in ridiculous ways that nobody even knows about. It's true we are all connected, but you are implying half of us are evil and it doesn't seem to be your half. This just doesn't read like everyone is evil and shouldn't judge. I'm saying there is plenty of sin to go around here and don't throw around judgments that apply to everyone. Your examples are clearly one way.

Who is “us” and How does this post imply that they are evil. What examples? I’m genuinely confused and actually trying to understand.

Well, to begin with, your "facts" do not apply to conservatives like you seem to be implying (what purpose did that serve and to whom does it apply if not?

Where di that come from?) and your references to "fascism" seem to point one way. And you seem to be supporting protest now, not a historical perspective on it. This piece implies there is a "good" people and an "evil" one, not that we are all both? Right? The piece seems to contradict itself repeatedly and doesn't ever really point inward. And that you feel somewhat sad about having to own this evil half of civilization of which you (or the other righteous to whom you are speaking) are not really part of? You are. It is not possible to separate any of it. I think most evil and corruption happens in the name of good deed doers. So just be careful with all that. The road to hell is paved with good intentions as they say. So this reads hypocritical and not all that well thought out.

Perhaps it’s only inflammatory if the shoe fits.

Ah, I rest my case. YOU are not evil; just those other people. LOL. Be careful with that.
