   There was still the matter of the snake in the grass. Relic was safe, but only for a moment. Herus was preparing to deliver the news of a retrieval. It was not just him, but many of the other town Herus’s who had thought this was the best course of action. Retrieval, according to Aslin, was a word used to describe deliberate invasion of a peaceful, happy, well-fed people. I no longer went to the chapel, eliciting a silent fight between Cira and I that had not yet been brought into the daylight. I had no objection to her and the children going. It was all they knew. In their own dome of understanding they, we, had created a true union of love alongside the church. In my eyes, that was not under scrutiny or in need of moderation. In fact, that was the very thing worth fighting for.
