Character Chart: A Map to the Nine Lives
It was a windy evening, but I needed to speak with Aslin. He had asked me to repair a wheel on the caravan, which I discovered needed extended suspension enhancement in order to operate correctly. I was going to wait until morning but decided if I knew what he suggested that night, I could get started on the project immediately the next day. It would have taken a long time trying to see him during the day with everyone demanding a piece of him. I set off into the brisk autumn air.
I thought about Relic and his improved relations with the town. I thought about the checks and balances of nature. I wondered about becoming an impartial whole. I mused that there was so much to learn and to know. I speculated that my children’s knowledge would surpass my own with strides, with or without my best efforts to teach them what I knew. I thought about living somewhere else and having to worry about slithering reptiles in the grass while at foot in the night. I then speculated the grass. Then saltwater, clouds, the stars that blazed on into the night until I arrived at the church.
